☀️Happy National Mental Health Awareness & Foster Care Month☀️

May is a big deal at Sunbeam! Join us this month as we recognize May as Mental Health Awareness and Foster Care Month. Below are resources like 2023 Mental Health Month Toolkit from Mental Health American and important statistics about foster care in our nation from The Children's Bureau.

Sunbeam’s Mental Health Program provides support groups and wraparound services for grandparents who are raising their grandchildren. There is a higher rate of Oklahoma children being cared for by a grandparent than the national average, and Sunbeam works to wrap care and support around grandfamilies to stabilize the family unit. One client story is featured below:

“Last year I became a grandparent raising a grandchild by default, which is quite overwhelming for me. I reached out to several community agencies for help but Sunbeam is one of the few agencies that said they could help. I was invited to a Grandparents Raising Grandchildren support group [where I] met Sierra and Kacie. They were very helpful and a few days after the meeting Kacie called when I was having a very stressful day dealing with housing. Kacie was very intuitive and scheduled an appointment with me to see how she could help. Kacie has helped me get through the housing difficulties with the housing agency and is helping me navigate through appropriate resources for housing, mental health, and employment. I’m grateful for Kacie and Sunbeam being in my community providing support for all phases of family. Sunbeam is the perfect name because your agency and staff continue to provide light in dark places.”
