☀️ Sunbeam Receives Expansion Grant☀️

Sunbeam Family Services received a $3.2 million federal grant to provide Early Head Start, Head Start, and Home Visitation services to even more children from birth to age 4. This grant will allow Sunbeam to support more than 700 children annually, offering additional services like mental health support, family case management, parenting classes, workshops, and community connections.

 

☀️ Story of Hope: The Wilcoxen Family ☀️

Learn more about Sunbeam's Foster Care program through the story of first-time foster parent, Laura Wilcoxen. Laura mentions that Sunbeam's foster care staff supported her and her partner through the entire process and continue to provide invaluable support and guidance in their fostering journey. Laura shared:

"From the first second of getting that phone call, we had a partner... Our case manager stayed until our new foster child felt safe."

We are incredibly thankful for Jersey Mike’s and their continued support of our Foster Care Program. This year, with the help of generous Oklahomans, Cookies for Kids raised an amazing $36,424! This money will go directly to our Foster Care program, helping to build brighter futures with children in foster care!

In today’s digital age, we’re all glued to screens. But what does this mean for our health, especially for kids?

Recently on Health Matters by TSET, News 9 Health Coach Dottie Small and Sunbeam’s Clinical Director Emma Wassilak discuss the risks of too much screen time. Emma highlights how it can affect kids’ language skills, focus, self-esteem, and social connections.

We’re thrilled to share that News 9’s fundraiser at the State Fair was a huge success, raising over $7,800—double last year’s total! Thank you to everyone who came to the Oklahoma State Fair and donated! Your generosity will support our mission of building brighter futures with all children and families.

☀️ Sunbeam Leads the Way: ELM Training for Oklahoma’s Child Care Providers ☀️

Did you know? The Oklahoma Department of Human Services awarded a grant to Sunbeam Family Services and Child Care Inc. of Oklahoma to support the pilot implementation of the Early Learning Matters (ELM) Curriculum. Our professional development specialists attended a two-day training at Purdue’s Ben and Maxine Miller Child Development Laboratory School in June 2023. Since then, they trained 565 early childhood providers in Oklahoma. We were thrilled to be part of this initiative to enhance early childhood education in Oklahoma! 

 
☀️ Community Court Grand Opening at
Mark Twain Elementary ☀️

Sunbeam recently joined the celebration at the grand opening of the new Community Court at Mark Twain Elementary, generously provided by Devon Energy, the OKC Thunder, and the Thunder Cares Foundation. Devon Energy has invested in our friends at Mark Twain for 20 years! We are grateful to partner with Mark Twain Elementary to provide with wrap-around support services for the families in our community.
