One of our Care Navigator staff connected with a new grandparent raising her two grandchildren, who heard Sunbeam on News 9. She reached out to us, seeking support for our back-to-school supply event tailored for grandparents raising their grandchildren. Understanding the urgency, our care navigator assisted her in completing the backpack application and went further to provide clothing resources for her family.

We connected her to Fostering Our Village, a valuable resource for clothing, which she deeply appreciated. During our conversations, she mentioned that her daughter needed dental care but lacked insurance. Our care navigator team promptly linked her to D-Dent, ensuring she could receive the much-needed dental treatment.

Recognizing the holistic needs of the family, our staff also identified a need for stable housing. We supported her in completing an application for Section 8 housing, aiming to provide a secure and stable environment for her and her grandchildren.

Sunbeam staff attended the Oklahoma Early Childhood Program (OECP) Annual Summit. We connected with other early childhood programs from across the state and brought home new leadership skills to improve our work with children and families.

Kathleen Espinoza, Family Engagement Coordinator, and Sarah England, Senior Director of Grants and Advocacy, also led a Parent Engagement in Action breakout session.

Their presentation highlighted innovative strategies to support families and empower parents to step confidently into their roles as leaders within their households and communities. By fostering strong family engagement, we’re not just transforming individual lives; we’re also shaping statewide practices that make a lasting impact on our communities.

Why is this important? Because when families are engaged, children thrive! It strengthens their educational journey and builds a foundation for lifelong success. Together, we can ensure that every parent feels equipped and inspired to take the lead in their family’s growth and development.
